I am a big believer in the power of experiential learning. To this end, instead of giving a talk about prayer, I'd much rather create a series of prayer stations designed to give students the opportunity to pray in a variety of ways.
Over the next several weeks, I'll be posting some of my favorite prayer stations. Prayer stations can be used collectively during a prayer night or individually, as part of a larger lesson. For example: This particular prayer station was used as part of a prayer experience during a winter retreat focused on sex, love, and dating.
Prayer Station: The Perfect Spouse
Themes: Marriage, Relationships
Supplies:
- Valentine's Day Cards that gush about the perfect spouse
- Pens
Directions:
These Valentine's Day Cards list some of the characteristics our culture says an ideal partner possesses. How do they compare to the characteristics you hope your spouse will possess?
Choose one of the Valentine's Day cards and on it, make a list of traits you hope your spouse will possess.
Next, go through and cross out any characteristics that would be nice, but that you'd be willing to live without.
What characteristics are left? Why are these traits particularly important to you?
Finally, pray for your future spouse. Pray that God would bless you with someone who possesses the characteristics you listed. Pray also for the grace to accept your future mate for who they are, including the ways they fail to live up to your ideal.
