I am a big believer in the power of experiential learning. To this end, instead of giving a talk about prayer, I'd much rather create a series of prayer stations designed to give students the opportunity to pray in a variety of ways.
Over the next several weeks, I'll be posting some of my favorite prayer stations. Prayer stations can be used collectively during a prayer night or individually, as part of a larger lesson. For example: This particular prayer station was used as part of a prayer experience during a winter retreat focused on sex, love, and dating.
Prayer Station: Broken Hearts
Themes: Disappointment, heartbreak, healing
Scripture Passages: Psalm 147:3
Supplies: Small hearts (that can be broken), hammer, small container
Directions:
Unfortunately, hearts are easily broken.
Your best friend might betray you.
Your parents might disappoint you.
Your significant other might break up with you.
Your spouse might hurt you deeply.
Think about one way you've had your heart broken.
As you do, take a small heart and use the hammer to smash it.
Gather the remnants of your broken heart and place them in one of the heart containers.
As you do, meditate on this verse.
Psalm 147:3:
God heals the brokenhearted and binds up their wounds.
As you hold the container housing the pieces of your broken heart, pray boldly for God to heal it.
