Stuff You Can Use: Big Mistakes Prayer Station

I am a big believer in the power of experiential learning. To this end, instead of giving a talk about prayer, I'd much rather create a series of prayer stations designed to give students the opportunity to pray in a variety of ways.

Over the next several weeks, I'll be posting some of my favorite prayer stations. Prayer stations can be used collectively during a prayer night or individually, as part of a larger lesson. For example: This particular prayer station was used as part of a prayer experience during a winter retreat focused on sex, love, and dating.

Prayer Station: Big Mistakes  

Scripture Link: Psalm 103:11-13; 1 Peter 4:8

Themes: Forgiveness, Grace  

Supplies:

- Paper

- Eraser   

- Pencils 

Directions:

Take a sheet of paper. On it, make a list of mistakes you've made this week.

Now consider these Scripture passages:

Psalm 103:11-13:
For as the heavens are high above the earth,
so great is his steadfast love toward those who fear him;
as far as the east is from the west,
so far he removes our transgressions from us.
As a father has compassion for his children,
so the Lord has compassion for those who fear him.

1 Peter 4:8:
Above all, maintain constant love for one another, for love covers a multitude of sins.

These passages mean that through Jesus' death and resurrection, no matter how badly we sin, we are forgiven.

To help you remember this, read your list of mistakes OUT LOUD. After each mistake, say, “I am forgiven.”

Then take the eraser and erase each of the mistakes you listed. After all, as Psalm 103 says, God has “removed those transgressions from you.” As you erase your mistakes, thank God for his forgiveness.
