What the book's about: The Memoir Project is, as it's title suggests, a book about writing memoir. Yet, it is more than that. It is a charming and thoroughly engaging read.
Why I read this book: I read this book as part of an online writing class I'm currently taking, Story 101, taught by Elora Rameriz.
My favorite quotes from the book:
- "That's what reading is: signing up to take a walk with the writer."
- "It's in the small moments that life is truly lived. Lessons from the 'large moments' are hard to absorb & rarely learned."
- "Nasty comments produce no value in the rewrites. Rewriting makes your original idea better but for that to happen, first you need to identify what works in the piece."
- "We're all afraid at the margins of our main roles, which makes it a great place to write from."
Thumbs up or thumbs down? Thumbs up.
Who I'd recommend this book for: Anyone interested in learning how to write better. Though this book is specifically geared toward those interested in writing memoir, it's insights are certainly applicable to other genres as well.
