What the book's about: The Girl's Still Got It is an exploration of the book of Ruth. It's a commentary that doesn't read like one.
Why I read this book: I first discovered Liz Curtis Higgs in college when my campus ministry used her book, Bad Girls of the Bible, in small groups. I enjoyed reading the book - which combines a fictional, modernized account of a Bible story with solid commentary of that story. Since then, I've kept an eye on this author. I was thrilled to see this book on Ruth just as I was beginning to prepare a winter retreat on the book of Ruth.
My favorite quotes from the book:
- "Often in biblical narrative things happen to women - sad things, even horrible things. Yet these two [Ruth and Naomi] take their future into their own hands."
- "Our desire as believers isn't to be more like Ruth; it's to be more like Jesus."
Thumbs up or thumbs down? Thumbs up
Who I'd recommend this book for: This is definitely a book written by a woman for women. I'd recommend it to any woman wanting to learn more about the book of Ruth and in the process, grow in their faith.
